Life cycle impact assessments

KONE’s environmental responsibility covers the full life cycle of its products from design and manufacturing to installation, maintenance, modernization, and end-of-life treatment.

In order to illustrate the environmental impact during the entire lifetime of our solutions, we publish Environmental Product Declarations. In addition, we publish Health Product Declarations to communicate about the material content and the associated health effects of our products, responding to a growing need for healthier living environments.

Environmental Product Declaration (EPD)

KONE's Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a third-party verified document that describes life cycle environmental impacts of our products. Our customers can use the declarations in obtaining green building certifications and when calculating the carbon footprint of the building. KONE’s EPD’s are compliant with EN 15804 standard required by LEED & BREEAM.

Health Product Declaration (HPD)

KONE’s Health Product Declaration (HPD) provides information about the material contents of elevators, and the health effects associated with these materials. KONE HPDs comply with the HPD Open Standard. Use of HPDs is one of the most common and easy ways of gathering documentation for compliance with LEED requirements for product material contents. Also WELL and Living Building Challenge certification systems have requirements for HPDs.
